Call your local Housing Authority and ask when application will be taken and do not be surprised if there is a long waiting list. In Chicago the waiting list is anywhere from 2 to 10 years.You are better off applying for housing in a low income housing complex and get a apartment there until section 8 is available.How do you sign up for section 8 or HUD? First off...you do NOT sign up for welfare...you apply. Second....you will not qualify unless you are a single parent, disable or elderly. Third...the wait list in Florida is over 4 years long.
